A type of machinery in the material handling industry that could be used to raise and transport loads from one place to another is called a forklift. Each and every part of a forklift has a particular function. Various parts can be used to transport the load either vertically or horizontally.
Mast
The forklift mast refers to all the parts that lower and lift the load. There are various types of masts for lifting loads to different heights: simplex, duplex, triplex and quad.
Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, diesel and propane. The battery is located inside the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is located on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is beneath the rear of the truck.
Cab
The forklift cab is situated in the center of the truck. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the informational gauges and controls. The gas pedal, steering wheel, tilting controls, brake and lifting controls are all located inside the cab.
Frame
The truck frame carries all the largest components of the forklift, like the counterweights, that are located at the back so as to prevent the truck from tipping when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the wheels, driveshaft and axles.
