During the year 1949, the Liebherr family business was established by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his inexpensive and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the foundation of the company flourished under. Today, The Liebherr business has grown to become one of the leading manufacturers within the world of construction equipment. The business has also earned the reputation of being the accredited provider of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in various fields. The company has currently become a "Group" working in every continent with more than 35,000 employees and more than 130 companies across the world.
In order to guarantee a manageable operating size, the Liebherr Group has been divided into different company units. These units have been designed to operate independently. This specific set up enables the company the ability to be flexible to market signals and stay in tune with worldwide competition. As well, having so many individual company units also keeps customer service operating at an optimum level and ensures customer proximity.
The divisional control companies handle the operative management of the sales companies and the production for the individual product segments. The Liebherr Group currently has ten different product divisions.
Liebherr-International AG is the holding company of the Liebherr Group. They are located within Bulle, Switzerland and are totally owned by the Liebherr family members. Presently, the family business is being managed in the 2nd generation by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr. Ever since the year 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by third generation members of the family such as: Jan Liebherr, Sophie Albrecht, Patricia Ruf and Stefanie Wohlfarth. These members of the family have been working together to help set up the course of the family business in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings across the globe.
Hans Liebherr started this quest during 1949, with his first company within the small South-German town of Kirchdorf/Iller. These days, Kirchdorf is among over 20 key manufacturing sites of the Liebherr Group. They are able to average a yearly output of roughly 2800 wheeled excavators and employ over 1400 people in that specific workforce.
